Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Heavy Equipment Operator to join our dynamic construction team in Santa Maria, CA. The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and other machinery, for various construction projects. You will play a crucial role in earthmoving, grading, trenching, and other site preparation activities, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and to the highest standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, front-end loaders, backhoes, graders, and compactors safely and efficiently.
  • Perform daily pre-operation and post-operation checks on equipment, documenting any issues or required maintenance.
  • Conduct earthmoving, grading, trenching, and other site preparation tasks according to project specifications and blueprints.
  • Monitor equipment performance and make minor adjustments as needed to ensure optimal operation.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, company policies, and relevant regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and other team members regarding project progress and potential issues.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and equipment.
  • Assist with manual labor when equipment is not in use or as directed by the supervisor.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment (e.g., excavators, loaders, dozers).
  • Strong understanding of construction site safety regulations and practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes, and other construction documentation.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
  • Mechanical aptitude for basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NCCCO certification or equivalent heavy equipment operator certifications.
  • Experience with GPS-enabled grading equipment.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Prior experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in basic English communication for safety and team coordination.
