Lionbridge is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Translation & Interpreting Services Intern to join our team in Vancouver. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a leading global language services company. You will work alongside experienced professionals, learn industry best practices, and contribute to meaningful projects that help bridge communication gaps across cultures. This is an entry-level position designed for individuals looking to develop foundational skills and understanding in translation project management, linguistic quality assurance, and interpreting coordination. Full training and mentorship will be provided to ensure your success and growth within our team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist project managers with the coordination and execution of translation projects.
- Support linguists and interpreters with administrative tasks and resource management.
- Conduct research on linguistic terminology and cultural nuances for various projects.
- Participate in quality assurance reviews of translated content, learning to identify and address linguistic errors.
- Learn to use industry-standard translation memory (TM) and terminology management systems.
- Help prepare and organize project documentation and client deliverables.
- Shadow senior staff in client meetings and project discussions to understand the full project lifecycle.
- Contribute to the improvement of internal processes and documentation for greater efficiency.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to learn new software and tools quickly and adapt to changing technologies.
- Basic computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Demonstrated interest in languages, translation, or international communication.
- Proactive attitude, a strong willingness to ask questions, and an eagerness to learn and grow.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Translation, Linguistics, Modern Languages, International Studies, or a related field.
- Proficiency in a second language (beyond English) is a plus.
- Familiarity with CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tools (e.g., SDL Trados, MemoQ) or a strong desire to learn them.
- Previous volunteer or academic project experience related to translation or interpreting is beneficial.
