Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Trainee Forensic Lab Assistant. This is an entry-level government role designed for individuals with no prior experience in a forensic setting. You will receive comprehensive, hands-on training in all aspects of forensic laboratory operations, supporting our expert scientists and technicians. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior forensic staff with routine laboratory tasks, including glassware cleaning, media preparation, and equipment maintenance.
- Prepare samples for analysis under supervision, adhering to strict protocols and safety guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory activities, including sample reception, storage, and disposal.
- Support inventory management of laboratory supplies and reagents.
- Learn and apply quality control procedures to ensure the integrity of forensic evidence.
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance forensic science knowledge and skills.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and policies within the laboratory.
- Perform general administrative duties as required to support laboratory operations.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions precisely and meticulously.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- A keen interest in science, particularly forensic science.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and sensitive environment.
- Eligibility to work for the Government of British Columbia (Canadian citizen or permanent resident).
Preferred Qualifications
- Some post-secondary coursework in a science-related field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Forensic Science) is an asset but not required.
- Prior experience working in any lab setting (e.g., school lab, volunteer) is a plus.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols.
