Job Description

The Toowoomba Regional Council is seeking dedicated and reliable individuals to join our team as Part-time School Crossing Supervisors. This vital community role involves ensuring the safety of children and pedestrians as they cross roads at designated school crossings during peak school travel times. You will play a crucial part in promoting road safety awareness and providing a safe passage for our youngest community members. Full comprehensive training and a uniform will be provided to all successful candidates, ensuring you are fully equipped for this important role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely supervise school children and pedestrians crossing roads at designated school zones.
  • Control traffic flow effectively to allow safe passage for pedestrians during peak school hours (morning and afternoon).
  • Educate children and parents on safe road crossing practices and road safety awareness.
  • Maintain vigilance and respond effectively to potential hazards or unsafe situations.
  • Report any incidents, hazards, or concerns to the appropriate Council authorities promptly.
  • Adhere strictly to all road safety regulations, Council guidelines, and procedures.
  • Act as a visible, friendly, and approachable presence within the school community.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children and parents.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods in various weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to child safety and community welfare.
  • Valid Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or willingness to obtain one prior to commencement.
  • A calm, patient, and authoritative demeanor when managing road users.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a community-facing or public safety role.
  • Basic first aid certification or willingness to undertake training.
  • Knowledge of local road safety regulations and procedures.
