Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN) to join our dynamic team in Gaspé, Quebec. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to make a significant impact on individuals’ mental health within a community setting. The CPN will be instrumental in providing direct patient care, conducting assessments, developing care plans, and facilitating access to essential mental health resources. We are open to supporting qualified international candidates, with Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) provided for eligible applicants, ensuring a smooth transition into our Canadian healthcare system.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including risk assessments, for individuals in the community.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide crisis intervention and support to individuals experiencing acute mental health challenges.
- Administer medication and monitor for side effects, providing education on adherence and self-management.
- Offer psychoeducation and therapeutic interventions to promote coping skills, recovery, and overall well-being.
- Collaborate effectively with primary care providers, social workers, occupational therapists, and other community partners.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
- Advocate for patients' rights and facilitate access to appropriate community resources and support networks.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities.
Required Skills
- Registered Nurse (RN) with current licensure to practice in Quebec (or eligibility for licensure).
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 2 years of post-registration experience in psychiatric nursing or mental health.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mental health conditions, treatment modalities, and community resources.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and therapeutic relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in French (oral and written) or a commitment to achieving proficiency within a specified timeframe (support may be available).
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for community visits.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Psychiatric Nursing or a related field.
- Experience working in a community mental health setting.
- Additional certifications in mental health specialties.
- Bilingualism (French and English).
