Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Operations Director to lead and optimize our operational functions within the Essex region, based out of our key Southend-on-Sea hub. The Operations Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of operational efficiency, productivity, and service delivery, ensuring alignment with DPD UK’s strategic goals and high standards. This pivotal role requires a visionary leader with a proven track record in managing complex logistics operations, fostering team development, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. You will be instrumental in shaping our operational future, enhancing customer satisfaction, and achieving profitability targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with company objectives to drive efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of operational managers and staff.
- Oversee daily operational activities, ensuring smooth and efficient processes across all departments.
- Manage budgets, forecasts, and financial performance for operational areas, identifying opportunities for cost reduction and revenue growth.
- Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track operational success and drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, health and safety standards, and company policies.
- Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
- Identify and implement innovative solutions and technologies to enhance operational capabilities and service delivery.
- Manage risk and develop contingency plans to mitigate operational disruptions.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 8 years in senior operational leadership roles, preferably within logistics, supply chain, or a related fast-paced industry.
- Proven ability to develop and execute operational strategies.
- Strong financial acumen and experience with budget management.
- Exceptional leadership and people management skills with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Proficiency in operational software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Outstanding communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree (MBA or equivalent) in a relevant field.
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies.
- Experience with large-scale distribution networks and multi-site operations.
- Familiarity with UK logistics regulations and industry best practices.
