Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Materials Engineer to join our dynamic team in Cornwall, Prince Edward Island. This role is crucial for ensuring the integrity, performance, and durability of materials used across our diverse construction and engineering projects. The successful candidate will be involved in material selection, testing, analysis, and research, contributing to innovative solutions and adherence to industry standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough material testing and analysis to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate materials for various construction and engineering applications, considering factors like cost, durability, and environmental impact.
  • Develop and implement material specifications, quality control procedures, and testing protocols.
  • Investigate material failures, defects, and performance issues, proposing effective corrective actions and preventative measures.
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, and other engineering disciplines to integrate material solutions into project designs.
  • Stay abreast of new material technologies, research, and industry trends to recommend innovative applications.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and documentation related to material properties and performance.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to construction teams regarding material handling, application, and storage.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in materials engineering, preferably within the construction or manufacturing industry.
  • Strong understanding of material properties, testing methods (e.g., destructive and non-destructive), and failure analysis.
  • Proficiency with relevant software for material characterization and data analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license or eligibility for registration in Canada.
  • Experience with concrete, steel, polymers, composites, or sustainable building materials.
  • Familiarity with Canadian building codes and material standards.
  • Project management experience or certification.
